So you want to learn to read tarot cards, here are a few tips for you to consider.

First you need to choose a deck of fortune telling cards. What works for one won't work for others. You may want to acquire several decks or just a special deck you like best. Your local bookstore will have different decks to choose from or you can find many sites online. The best thing to do is go to a store, and pick up a deck and see if you like the feel of the cards. The feel, weight or look of the cards will be important to you. If you a feel like the images on the cards or even how they feel in your hands, then that is probably the deck that you will should try. You should get a deck that comes with a small book inside the package or box so you will have something to quickly reference if you should get lost in the meaning of the cards.  

Next you should learn your cards. The best way to learn is to study each picture, one by one, while memorizing it’s meaning. There are seventy eight meanings to learn so be patient. It is recommended that you put the deck of cards under your pillow at night so you can get better acquainted with them. The idea is that your subconscious will absorb the meaning. You can also meditate or dream upon the individual cards in the same way by placing them under your pillow. 

Some like to prepare their cards after they first get them, either by praying or meditating over them, passing them through the smoke of incense or placing them in the light of the full or new moon for a night. Some readers believe the power of the cards is improved if they are placed inside a special box or wrapped in a silk pouch. You can make your best judgment about how to store your cards. 

Many people protect their cards by not letting anyone touch them. There is a belief that others can contaminate the cards with their beliefs, fears or worries. The cards are a portal through to the other side, so keeping them away from other people may be a good idea to keep people from unintentionally "touching" you through the cards and passing along possible toxic energy.

Of course when it comes time to shuffle the cards you need to decide if you are going to be the only one to handle the deck so the cards are not tainted by others.  Only you can decide the best way to handle your Tarot cards.
